Registration for new graduates

  • Follow the instructions on this page to apply for a Practicing or Restricted licence as a new graduate

Background Info

  • New Graduates have never licensed as a paramedic or EMR anywhere in Canada
    • Must complete educational program within the last 2 years
      • Between 2 and 5 years, refresher course required
      • Over 5 years, program must be retaken

  • Practicing Licence: New Graduates that have passed a licensing exam can apply for a Practicing licence with no restrictions
  • Restricted Licence: New Graduates that have not yet passed a licensing exam can apply for a Practicing licence and add a Restriction to work under direct supervision (EMR and ACP) or NEW: direct and indirect supervision with prohibited activities (PCP). Restricted licence detailed info >
    • Restricted licences last 6 months and can be extended for another 6 months one time only, for a total of 12 months. Exam eligibility is 2 years but Restricted licences last a maximum of 1 year so plan accordingly
  • Applicants do not need a Restricted licence to write the COPR licensing exam. More info about COPR licensing exam >
  • Available licence levels are Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP), and Critical Care Paramedic (CCP)
  • Community Paramedic (CP) endorsement is available to all Paramedic levels

Applicable Fees

    • Application fee: $100 (non-refundable)
    • Practicing licence: $520. Reduces by 25% each quarter
    • Professional liability insurance: Before August 1: $90. After August 1: $45. Apply for Professional liability insurance >
    • Restricted licence (optional): $100 + practicing licence fee and application fee
    • Pay by Visa or Mastercard when applying online. Or choose e-transfer to pay by money order, certified cheque, employer cheque, or e-transfer (to payments@collegeofparamedics.sk.ca). No personal cheques

Registration/Licensing Instructions

  • Go to the Applicant Portal and select the option that fits:
    • New Graduates – Saskatchewan
    • New Graduates – non Saskatchewan based (Can)
    • New Graduates – from a non-accredited institution

The following items must be uploaded to your Application Form. Please read carefully:

  • Criminal record check (VSQ is not required) – completed by a police officer within the past 6 months. Electronic copies are accepted providing a seal or other authentication is visible on the document or proof of validity can be confirmed. Please upload to the Character and Conduct section of your application form
    • If unable to obtain a local criminal record check, Sterling Backcheck is approved
    • If your local service requires a letter from SCoP to obtain a CRC, please use Sterling Backcheck; we do not provide these letters
  • Education:
      • Educational certificate (EMR) – Upload to Education section of application
      • Transcript or diploma (PCP, ACP) – Upload transcript or diploma to the Education section. NOTE: Do not mail in. Electronic copies are accepted providing a seal or other authentication is visible on the document or proof of validity can be confirmed

  • Mandatory Certificates – Upload the following certificates
    • All certificates must be current and not expired
    • Ensure your CPR certification is for BLS (Basic Life Support) and from Canadian Red Cross, St. John Ambulance, or Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada

This reading includes your annual renewal requirements. Please ensure that you have read and understand these documents before submitting your application

Submitting form and Paying Fees

  • Applications submitted from January to October : the application form will reflect the fees owed for the current year. Pay the required fees by credit card or e-transfer immediately, and watch your email for confirmation that your licence has been approved
  • Applications in November or December: To be licensed for January 1, the College will need to change the invoice amount to reflect the correct practicing fee; choose e-transfer and submit the form, then email office@collegeofparamedics.sk.ca to ask for an adjusted invoice amount. To be licensed for November or December, submit your application and pay immediately with credit card or e-transfer, then email to confirm that you did want the current year

Your Licence

When you are approved, your information will be updated on the Online Registry, and your Member Licence and Wallet Card will be available from your Member Account.

Licences expire on December 31 but all licences must be renewed by December 1. Late fees of $275 are applied on December 2. Renewal Instructions >
