EMR Program Requirements Updated
Council has approved updated EMR program requirements to provide the minimum expectation for all EMR programs in Saskatchewan.
These new requirements describe admission requirements, instructor/faculty expectations, program curriculum (includes didactic and simulation, clinical, and evaluation), and program quality assurance.
Programs will be encouraged to exceed the minimum requirements as necessary to ensure their programming meets the needs of the learners, employers and patients.
Organizations will have until July 1, 2026 to implement these changes. Please see the new requirements below.

New Protocol Manual
The summer update to the Paramedic Clinical Practice Protocol manual has been released as version 8.0.
This version has several minor additions and revisions to assist EMRs and paramedics as well as several newly developed protocols and procedures.
The Paramedic Practice Committee (PPC) has reviewed these new protocols and has determined that the current needs of the Saskatchewan public require such additions. These changes have been added to the scope of practice, and EMRs and paramedics are required to ensure competence in the skills pertaining to these protocols prior to their use.
Please see the letter below for an itemized list of changes to the protocol manual for ease of review.

Update on Medication Facilitated Intubation (MFI) Reviews
Effective immediately, all Medication Facilitated Intubation (MFI) reviews will now be completed by the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA). All completed MFI forms must be sent to SHAEMS.QualityAssurance@saskhealthauthority.ca. SHA forms are available on our website at the link below.
This change is part of an ongoing effort to streamline processes and ensure consistent oversight and support for clinical procedures. Concerns regarding competence will be reported to the College for additional review. Paramedics can expect further communication from the SHA regarding documentation, submission requirements, and review timelines.
We appreciate your continued commitment to safe, high-quality patient care. If you have any questions about this transition, please contact either Jennifer Williams or Destin Ash.
